Why does light seem unpleasant or dazzling?
When light is perceived as unpleasant, it is rarely due to a single cause. Light affects the eyes, the room, and mood, and it is precisely there that the feeling of unease or glare arises.
Unpleasant lighting doesn't necessarily mean that a light fixture is bad or incorrect. Often, the light simply doesn't suit the situation or the room.
Possible causes
| glare | The light source is either directly visible or incorrectly aligned. |
| Too high brightness | The room is brighter than necessary. |
| Incorrect light color | The color temperature is not appropriate for the use or time of day. |
| Uniform light | There is a lack of zones, accents, or quiet areas. |
| reflections | Light surfaces or screens reflect light. |
Good lighting is not solely determined by brightness. It thrives on gradation, direction, and the interplay of light and shadow.
Even small changes in position, light color or orientation can significantly improve the feeling of space.
